Current win streaks by Central Oregon high school sports teams. Mountain View will open the 2012 football season with a 10-game win streak in tact. Summit boys tennis goes into 2012 having won nine in a row.
    Top Central Oregon Win Streaks:
    10 Mountain View Football
    9 Summit Boys Tennis
    6 Summit Volleyball
    5 Crook County Volleyball
    3 Summit Girls Basketball
    3 Mountain View Boys Basketball
    3 Sisters Boys Basketball

    Top Oregon Win Streaks:
    55 Central Catholic Volleyball
    • CC last loss was 9-25-10 to Los Alamitos, CA.
    • CC 86-3 last 3 years (all three losses to out of state teams)

I’m still adding win streaks from around Oregon.

Summit vs Mountain View in state volleyball quarterfinal

Is there a flaw in the system when Summit and Mountain View meet up in what is essentially the first round of the state tournament? It’s called the quarterfinals, but volleyball like basketball is truly an 8-team state tournament. When you reach the quarterfinals you got to the “state tournament” held in one location over a three-day span complete with consolation and playing out for 3rd-4th.

So why isn’t the round of 8 reseeded to put league opponents on opposite sides of the draw? I do like the power ranking system. It’s not perfect, but no system is. I think however in addition to using the power rankings, league teams should be separated.

Here is the 5A state volleyball bracket.
