3 New football coaches @ the 3 Bend high schools

    COA,Feature — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — Josh Cordell @ 1:55 pm

State champion Steve Turner of Mountain View is the latest coach to step down. The three Bend high schools all lost longtime, successful football coaches after this past season. Turner says he plans on return to Cascade High School.

First Bend’s Craig Walker, then Summit’s Jerry Hackenbruck and now MV’s Turner. The jobs have been filled by very capable coaches at Bend and Summit already.

2011 year in Review part 1 – State Champion teams

    COA — Tags: , , , , , , , — Josh Cordell @ 5:56 pm

All the Central Oregon state championship teams in the calendar year of 2011.
    FOOTBALL
Mountain View – The first state football title in school history. The last time a Bend school had won a state football title was the Bend Lava Bears in 1940.

    VOLLEYBALL
Crook County – Dynasty! The Cowgirls won an amazing 6th state volleyball title in a row in 2011. Crook County coach Rosie Honl has built an unreal program in Prineville.

Summit – The Storm won the first volleyball state title in school history, after two 2nd place state finishes.

    TENNIS
Summit Boys – The 2011 State champs won their second title in three years and return the bulk of their team for 2012. The two state champs (2009 & 2011) are the only boys team state tennis titles in Central Oregon history.

Crook County Girls – 1985 (Bend) was the last time a Central Oregon team had won a state girls team title in tennis. The Cowgirls held off Portland private school OES 14.5-13 to get coach Lloyd Rodgers the title.

    GOLF
Summit Girls – Girls golf titles have been won 6 years in a row by Bend schools, with Summit winning the past three. “Coach Hack” is your typical head football coach, head girls golf coach. With the way he is turning around Summit football, perhaps he’ll add a football title to his girls golf titles in the future!

    CROSS COUNTY
Summit Girls – The 2011 Storm XC team may have been the best in Central Oregon history (Bend girls of the 90s have a strong case as well). State champs (4th in a row), and regional champions. Coach Dave Clark has built a monster XC program @ Summit.

Summit Boys – The Storm boys won their first state XC title in school history and look loaded to make another run at the title in 2012.

    TRACK
Summit Girls – Dave Turnbull’s Storm won their 5th state title in a row and they did so with a record-setting 112.5 points.

Summit Boys – The Storm won their second ever state boys track title and did so by just one point! 78-77 over Marshfield.

    WRESTLING
Culver – The Bulldogs have won 5 state state titles in a row @ the 1A level. Always impressive when a team can win more than 4 in a row, as it shows it much more than a dominating class of kids.

Jefferson’s Terrences both projected as top 8 NBA draft picks

Terrence Jones and Terrence Ross both attended Portland’s Jefferson high school. Jones is a star at kentucky and Ross is a star at Washington. Both Oregon boys are projected to be drafted in the top 8 of the of the 2012 NBA draft by NBAdraft.net.

I watched Terrence Jones play a few times in high school but never got to see Ross play as he transferred from Jefferson. Jones’ Jefferson Democrats beat Mountain View in a very close Class 5A state championship game game in 2009.

UConn is projected to have the top two picks in the draft with Andre Drummond and Jeremy Lamb.
