EUGENE – Mountain View beat Crescent Valley 38-33 to reach the first state championship basketball game in Mountain View history.

The last time a Bend school reached the state boys basketball championship game was when Bend High did so in 1944. Wow! That’s right, 1944.

The Cougars face two-time defending champion Jefferson on Saturday night @ Mac Court in Eugene.

It was tied 28-28 at the end of the third quarter and took three minutes in the fourth quarter before either team scored. Jesse Zapata hit a 3 to give MV a 31-28 lead.

The game was tied @ 33-33 with 3 minutes to play. James Reid hit a free throw to give MV a one-point lead with 2 minutes to play and added to more freebies to take a 36-33 lead.

Seth Brent was named the Mountain View player of the game. Brent finished with 10 points. Reid had 8 points and Mark Claar added 7 points.

Alex MacNeil led CV with 8 points.

The OSAA has the final Fall standings of the Oregonian Cup up on their website. Summit of Bend won the overall 5A title last year. Crescent Valley, who won the two years before Summit, leads after the Fall. Jesuit of Beaverton has won the past 5 large school titles.
