MV boys soccer 10 year reunion with the finals

Posted on 18 November 2009 by Josh Cordell

It was 10 years ago in 1999 that Mountain View reached its last boys soccer state final. A scoreless tie with Jesuit gave the John Stockton-coached team the school’s only state soccer title.

With Tuesday’s 2-1 win over cross-town rival Bend, the Cougars face off against Corvallis in the State Championship game Saturday @ Liberty High School in Hillsboro @ 10:30am.

Corvallis (14-3 overall) has been dominant this year, outscoring its opponents 82-19, including 9-0 in three playoff games. Their only loss to a Class 5A team all year came at the hands of Bend high in late September.

Mountain View (8-6-3) picked a good time to be playing its best soccer, as the Cougars ended the regular season with 1-0 loss to Summit. Since then, MV has survived two 2-1 playoff wins and a 3-0 playoff victory over IMC foe The Dalles-Wahtonka.
