Is there a flaw in the system when Summit and Mountain View meet up in what is essentially the first round of the state tournament? It’s called the quarterfinals, but volleyball like basketball is truly an 8-team state tournament. When you reach the quarterfinals you got to the “state tournament” held in one location over a three-day span complete with consolation and playing out for 3rd-4th.
So why isn’t the round of 8 reseeded to put league opponents on opposite sides of the draw? I do like the power ranking system. It’s not perfect, but no system is. I think however in addition to using the power rankings, league teams should be separated.
Here is the 5A state volleyball bracket.

The Intermountain Conference just isn’t the good old IMC of years past. With the changes to Hybrid and “special” districts, the only sure thing for Bend schools is that they play each other. While some district meets now include teams like Ashland and Eagle Point, it’s hard to say who the best of the “IMC” is… because there really isn’t an IMC anymore. But what we can see is how the three Bend schools stack up against each other. Simply by taking each teams’ league finish and giving 3 points for first, 2 points for second and 1 point for third. So here’s how they finished this fall:

Grad Golf Champion$hip$ is a newly launched “Alumni School Fundraiser.” According to the site:
Enjoy a wonderful day on the links with former classmates from those “glory days” or other schoolmates from past or future years. Have fun representing your school and/or your graduating year to find out who is truly “king of the hill”. The winning teams from your school will all qualify for the league or district championships at a future event. And it even gets better than that. The winning teams from your league, with a little luck and skill, ultimately will move on to the state championship tournament!
This is a great way to enjoy some friendly competition, a reunion with classmates, as well as give something back to your school, school district and your state. Grad Golf is a fund raising organization creating a venue for golfers to reconnect with fellow golfers and schoolmates through competition and socialization.
Bend has a verbal agreement with USA Cycling to host the 2011 and 2012 US Masters Cycling championships, which should be even bigger than Cyclocross National. This is huge!!!
