An online petition to save Oregon high school cross country is being linked to in mass e-mails.

The petition reads:

To: OSAA Board Members
The OSAA is considering taking away the team competition at the State Meet and making cross country an individual sport. Anybody who has ever run cross knows that it’s a team sport.

The proposal would likely make it so that the only way to get to the State Meet would be through an individual qualification process – effectively eliminating the team competition. This would be extremely detrimental to the future growth of the sport in the State of Oregon.
