BEND, Ore. — R.E. Jewell Elementary School has been awarded as one of the nation’s highest distinctions for its physical education program.
At R.E. Jewell Elementary School, P.E. is taken to a whole new level. Kids eagerly skip in for a half-hour of jam-packed movement.
Collin Brooks, the school’s Physical Education teacher, developed the fast-moving program that made R.E. Jewell Elementary one of 16 schools in the nation to win an award from the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
“Seemed like in the past, P.E. was sports oriented, but now we focus on movement, getting kids physically active,” said Bruce Reynolds, Jewell Elementary Principal.
The elementary school is now the only STARS recognized school in Oregon, it and hopes to set a trend for the rest of Bend-La Pine schools.
