Bend’s Max King took 11th at the USATF Cross Country National Championships on Saturday in Spokane, Washington.
Danthan Ritzenhein of team Nike won the 12K race with a time of 34 minutes, 34 seconds. King clocked in @ 35:58.
Shalane Flanagan of Nike won the women’s 8K with a time of 25:10.
800-meter specialist Emily McMahon, a Mountain View graduate, was 46th in the women’s 8K (31:00).

The North side of the border came out on top in the annual Borderclash prep cross country race at the Nike World Campus in Beaverton, OR.
Washington beat Oregon 15-50 in the boys race and 19-44 in the girls race.
Sisters’ Parker Bennett had an outstanding race, finishing the 4,400-meter course in 14:44.45 as the fourth fastest Oregon runner, taking 18th overall. Washington’s Shane Moskowitz won the boys race in a time of 14:06.29. The top Oregon placer was Jesuit’s Ben Demaree, who was 11th in 14:32.55. Also racing from Central Oregon were Summit’s Pat Madden (50th 15:14.02) and Travis Neuman (71st 15:45.17).
Washington’s Amy-Eloise Neale won the girls 4,400-meter race in 16:37.10. Jesuit’s Annamarie Maag (the 6A state champion) was second in 16:38.23. Summit’s Megan Fristoe was the fifth fastest Oregon runner (25th 17:36.73). The Intermountain Conference was well represented, as Hermiston’s Angelica Rodriguez was 8th for Oregon (17:43.33), Summit’s Eirann Cohen was 10th (17:51.97) and Summit’s Brit Oliphant was 12th (17:56.18).

7 – Number of runners from the IMC that were ahead of everyone else in the Class 5A girls’ race.
8 – Number of state titles the Jesuit girls have won in a row.
9 – Travis Neuman of Summit’s place in the 5A boys’ race. The best finish of any freshman or IMC runner in the race.
10 – Seconds separating Jesuit’s Annamarie Maag (18:31) and Payton Schutte (18:41) the top two finishers in 6A girls.
15 – What a combined Summit, Mountain View and Bend girls’ team would have scored at state (a perfect score).
21 – Summit girls score, the third lowest in girls state history in any classification. (16 – Crater 2007, 20 – Bend 1992.)
73 – Points that St. Mary’s scored and won the Class 3A/2A/1A girls title. The most by any champion this year.
2001 – The last time a public school won the large school division of the boys’ xc state championship. Since Bend did it in 2001, Jesuit and Central Catholic have won all the titles.
