Relay for Life
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in our community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Teams of people will be camping out at High Desert Middle School on June 19th – 20th and will have a representative on the track at all times for a full 24 hours. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are 24 hours in length as well.
Anyone can participate in Relay For Life. Friends, families, neighbors, classmates, sports teams, etc., can form their own teams. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you at Relay. The only requirement to participate in Relay For Life is the $10 registration/commitment fee (per person) that is due upon registration at BendRelay.com. After that, anything you can raise through individual, team, or online fundraising is graciously accepted.
At Relay, you have a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer in our lifetime. No matter why you take part in Relay, however, one thing is clear: with every step you take, you are helping the American Cancer Society save lives. With your help, we aren’t just fighting one type of cancer we’re fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community.
For more information, log on to BendRelay.com or contact Stefan Myers at Stefan.Myers@cancer.org or 541.977.5764.
Hope On The Slopes
A ski and board event to help fight cancer
Hope on the Slopes is a team and individual skiing/ boarding event. Participants engage in a virtual competition with other Hope on the Slopes participants in two categories: Dollars Raised and Vertical Feet.
The goal of Hope on the Slopes is to not only have fun, but also raise money for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, helping in its mission to eliminate cancer in our community. Pledges raised through Hope on the Slopes help provide cancer patients and their families with information and support, fund research that leads to improved treatments, educate the public about cancer prevention and early detection, and help ensure that everyone has access to lifesaving cancer screenings.
Hope On The Slopes will be held at our very own Mt. Bachelor on April 24th from 9am to 4pm. Individual registration is $25 and teams of 5-8 can register for $100. Mount Bachelor will be graciously offering participants all day lift passes for $20 on that day. You can register at our meeting place at Clearing Rock Bar on that day or go to bendrelay.com or contact Stefan Myers at Stefan.Myers@cancer.org or (541) 977.5764. Whether you’re looking for some healthy competition or some good ol’ fashion fun, come join us for a great day of spring snow fun and support a great cause!
Awesome and inspiring Nike commercial with the lyrics, “Everybody gets knocked down, how quick are you gonna get up?” The song is “All In The Jungle” by Hours.
We hear so much about the bad in sports, when in fact sports is such a positive part of this world. So here @ COA we are going to post the occasional article under the category “Good People in Sports.” It’s an attempt to increase the positive and to give credit where credit is due… which is basically what Central Oregon Athlete is all about!
