[this is the first of many Central Oregon Athlete Profiles]
Jason Adams is pretty much the perfect example of a Central Oregon Athlete. His two passions… cross country skiing and golf. Adams was a standout golfer at Mountain View high school where he was Intermountain Conference District champion as a junior, shooting a record-low score in the process. Now a days Adams is focused on endurance competition:
COA – When did you start racing?
JA – I started racing in 2003.
COA – What got you into racing?
JA – When I was younger, I knew that always wanted to do the PPP by myself when I ‘grew up.’ My parents had a bike shop on Galveston and I got to watch the PPP greats. When I retuned to Bend after college, one day I realized that I had ‘grown up’ and designed to do the PPP by my self.
COA – What are your racing goals?
JA – My goals with cross country ski racing are to compete for top placing in the local races and then just to compete in some national races including US nationals. As for the PPP, my goal is to win it!
COA – What is your favorite workout in Central Oregon?
JA – My favorite workout in Central Oregon is spring time crust cruising into Broken Top on skate skis.
COA – Anything to add?
JA – My coach is also my endurance athlete/PPP hero – Justin Wadsworth!
Some of Jason’s 2009 results:
4th @ Cascade Crest 25k XC – 1:14:22.9
7th @ Great Nordeen 25k XC – 1:05:16.3
10th @ Pole Pedal Paddle – 2:00:07
13th @ Pilot Butte Challenge – 8:46.8

Jason,
Thanks for all the time and effort that you have put into helping out the Summit Men’s Golf Team since the opening of the school. I learned so much about golf and life from you in the four years that you were our coach.

When you grow up eating Central Oregon dirt, drinking Cascade Mountain run-off and breathing the High Desert air, you can help but do what Bendites do… ski, bike, golf, run, paddle! If they ever turn the PPP into the PPPP (pole, pedal, paddle, PUTT !), then everyone better watch out because I’ll be swinging some Tiger fist pumps to victory!
You are welcome Chippy!
