Ian Boswell

Born and raised in Bend, the 2009 Summit graduate is one of the top young cyclists in the Nation. COA caught up with (via the internet, not on a bike) the 18 year old.
COA: Where are you living right now?
IB: Currently I am living in Chico, CA and going to Butte College.
COA: What is in the near future for your racing?
IB: For the 2010 season I signed a professional contract with Bissell Pro Cycling Team. I will be traveling and racing around the country competing in the nation’s top races in the NRC (National Race Calendar)
COA: How long have you been cycling?
IB: I first started racing road bikes when I was 12 years old, but did BMX before that.
COA: What has been your biggest cycling success so far?
IB: I was national time trial and criterium champion back in 2005, and that has to be up there, but this year was by far the most successful. This year I was one out of six riders from the US selected to partake in the Junior World Championships in Moscow, Russia, this has been my long-term goal as a junior and to accomplish this before I was no longer a junior was very satisfying.
COA: Do you have a favorite Central Oregon ride?
IB: The Twin Bridges loop is a common ride but one that I always love doing. It shows off Central Oregon well; with the views of the mountains, and crossing the river a few times it has a lot of beauty.
COA: What is your ultimate cycling goal?
IB: Long term cycling is an activity that I would like to do for the rest of my life, and more closely I will race at the highest level possible and try to aspire to the best I can.
COA: What is the story with the Boswell Burrito at Taco Stand?
IB: I know the family who owns the Taco Stand well, and one day their son wanted to do an “eating challenge” and the winner would get a burrito named after them. Gino (the owner/ master chef) put everything imaginable in a tray put some tortillas on top and served it up. I am known to have some eating skills and often surprise people at how much food I can pack in. So I put my abilities to work and ate the mass of food in 4:30. Today the Boswell Challenge is a much more tasty burrito but still a 4 pound burrito and free to anyone who can finish it in under my time.
